Politics, change, uncertainty all have an effect on a business’s ability to operate in a market. We all know that there have been major changes, and a large amount of uncertainty, in the health insurance space since the inception of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
Whenever there are these types of changes, markets shift and companies have to make changes as well.
Sometimes this means leaving a market altogether.
Molina Healthcare of Utah announced in August that they are leaving the Federal exchange in Utah effective 2018. Due to the uncertainty of the health insurance landscape, and the increasing costs of providing health insurance. Molina is one of many companies we’ve seen over the past 4 years to leave the Utah market place (including Arches health plan and Humana in 2016).
With Molina leaving, families and individuals looking for health insurance in Utah will be left to choose between SelectHealth and University of Utah Health Plans for their 2018 coverage.
What does that mean if you have a Molina Plan?
There about 70,500 Utahns who have their health plans with Molina right now. There is nothing to worry about for the remainder of 2017, but come open enrollment time, you will need to select a new health carrier.
When you sign up for a 2018 plan during open enrollment, you will be presented with options to choose a new plan from SelectHealth or the University of Utah.
Is there an easy way to switch?
I thought you’d never ask 🙂
We’ve put together a short video series designed to help guide you through the process of enrolling into a new plan. After you watch the videos, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We’re always here to help.
